Cheryl Fortune Hits No. 1 With “Fighters”

Singer songwriter Cheryl Fortune has striven through the musical terrain by landing on Billboard at No. 1 on the Recurrent chart with her hit song “Fighters”. The anthem had spent 31 weeks on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart before climbing to the top on the Recurrent chart. The anthem has since reached 725 detections. The Houston-based artist has been on the steady incline since the song’s debut in January 2017

With songwriting credits abound, Cheryl created a diamond in this autobiographical single produced by Luscious B. Hoskins. As the lead single from her debut Album Simply Cheryl (LuDawn Music/Tyscot) which reached No. 8 on the Billboard Gospel Albums sales chart in October, “Fighters” served as a theme song for Hurricane Harvey survivors. With a solid theme of overcoming challenges, Cheryl has stated about “Fighters”: “With this single I created an anthem that would offer a sense of hope, strength and boldness.” She adds, “These songs are telling my truth, my story,” she says. “I want others to know there you can tap into the strength within. That there is prosperity in your heart and your mind – it’s not just about wealth.

As a Grammy nominated and Stellar Award-winning songwriter, Fortune’s past work has lead up to this recent success. She began her career as a session singer, songwriter and vocal arranger with Kirk Franklin and ex-husband James Fortune. Cheryl’s songwriting credits include records for Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, Monica, Tasha Cobbs, Zacardi Cortez and James Fortune & FIYA. Fortune has also toured with Kirk Franklin during his “20 Years In One Night” concert tour as a background vocalist and vocal arranger.
